The Vintage Wine Years
Below are just a few of the years that are the best for vintage wine:
1939
Good red wines were made in Burgundy and the Southern Rhone. In Portugal, the Tawny (Colheita) Ports that were produced are excellent but no vintage port was made.
1949
What a year! Bordeaux had stunning weather and produced a stunning vintage. It was an outstanding vintage for Red Burgundy and very good for white Burgundy.
1959
Although the harvest was small, this was an exceptional year, particularly for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Piemont and Tuscany.
1969
Only the first growth and Grand Cru wines are now drinkable. Burgundy had an outstanding vintage for red and white wines.
1978
The Chateau Latour of this vintage year gains a commendable 94 points on the Parker scale, thanks to its full body and splendid red fruit bouquet.
1983
The 1983 Chateaux Margaux wine is a rich and powerful dark ruby colour that is rated one of the wines of that year for.
1986
Chateau Latour produced a classic in this year, though not rated as highly as it’s 1978 version.
1995
Once again, Chateau Latour produced an excellent vintage.
1998
The Tayac vineyard in Margaux produced a great vintage after it was taken over following two decades of dereliction.
2005
Dry weather during the summer culminated in beautiful conditions during the September harvest, resulting in ripe, healthy, balanced grapes.
